Hey all,

What kinda tournaments do you like / dislike.   Give us ideas what you have played in before that was unsual but fun etc.

Things like.

Deathmatch or team based.

Random or bring your own teams.

RTS's?

Game types prefered.

Do you like to do non PC/Console things for a change up during the events.

Just give us your thoughts so we can work on making this a good fun event for all attending.

I think team based FPS tournaments would be fun. I think UT3 and COD4 would be safe bets.

For an RTS tournament Supreme Commander would be awesome.

How many people are still playing Supreme Commander.  I know I set the game down for quite some time and was turned off a little at first, but I reinstalled it and am willing to give it another try.  I will probably get smoked though.

Just consider me cannon fodder for the troops.

Does anyone have the expansion, Forged Alliance? You actually don't need Supcom to play, it's a standalone expansion. I personally find it to be much better.

I have not tried that yet.  May see how it plays if anyone is paying at the first LAN we are having in the upcoming June event.  Even if not a tournament, it would be fun to get a group of people playing it.

Yeah I reinstalled Supreme Commander again, but have not started it yet.  It ran like a dog on my desktop but might run much better on my notebook.

I think it would be a blast to have like a 3v3 or something.

However, I suggest that you all try to play it, it has a very steep learning curve.

A Good Idea for SMBB would be Team (2v2) matches.

Yeah, one on one might not be the most fun either.  Those games are often more fun with a partner.

I was thinking 2v2 or 4 player free for all type matches.

 It depends on who will be in the event. most people who are interested in a tournament will want tourney rules, which are as follows

1v1:

4:00 time and 3 stock
Stage set on Final Dest. or Battlefield
NO items (including Smash Ball)

2v2:
6:00 Time and 3 Stock each
Stage pickable as long as both teams agree, if not, then Final Dest. or Battlefield
No Items (including Smash Ball)

Iwas thinking of after the tournament doing 2v2 with random teams (it was a blast last time we played it at a prev. lan).

NOTE: Tournament mode provided in game does not work for team battle, we would have to write them down ourselves.

I like the idea of the fighting games being considered though. With a ton of new ones coming out the woodwork (King Of Fighters 12, Tekken 6, Street Fighter 4!!!!) and classics that still have a tight following (marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, etc.) I have no doubt you get great numbers. (last big place i went too had 100+ JUST for the fighting games, not counting the other stuff that was there!) There is a good underground coummunity of fighting game afficionados like myself in Dayton and we all would love to find a home for our group to thrive.

We certainly welcome the gamers of that genre.  It would be kind of cool to have a tourney with the fighting games in them.  But I would get crushed.  I really was only good at them up until the Tekken 3 days back in college when we had the roommates and friends over and everyone got pissed off at me for being the brazilian martial arts guy that did all sorts of floor sweeping and funky moves.  I was good back then.  But now, I am only half way decent at FPS's.

Oh well.  Maybe I will have to get my button mashing fingers oiled up.  Bring it!!!   :o

Playing With the guys I play will will have you playing like a pro within the year definitely (these players destroy Eddy button mashers).

Hey im new to the forums here, but you will prolly see me at the June lan, good friends with jpwinkis here.

But my suggestion would be to have 5v5 teams (random) for CoD4 for a FPS Tourny, and a 1v1 Company of Heroes Tourny for RTS. This is for the PC.

Console, for me at least, id be lookin at the xb360, lookin at the games like CoD4, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and others for their FPS tournys. Both have fantastic MP.

if Team matches, they need to be random IMO to keep things on an even playing field.

The competitive team games at this time for

PC:
CoD4
TF2
Quake 3 (1v1)
UT3 (optional, poorly viewed among most - even the UT vets)

Console:
Halo 3
CoD4
Gears of War
SSBB

Welcome to the boards Delta and Virt.  Thanks for the input on the tourneys.  I have not done  much with TF2, but more than likely COD4 will be one of the tourneys, although I am not the tourney director and do not have final say. 

Hopefully we see you guys at the June event and you can let us know more about your thoughts on the matter.

:) Ask Winkis, I've done my fair sharing of LANs in the Dayton Area and even though I'm now a Columbus local, I'll be sure to be there to see how things go ^_^

I'm sure that if we do COD4 for PC which sounds like we will, that we would not do a COD4 for 360 as well. It just seems like it would be easier to go with PC. Company of Heros sounds like fun too, I'm not sure about the expansion pack because I havened heard if it was any good. Another console game would be Grand Theft Auto 4 perhaps a Death match.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have a Halo 3 tourney... a 2v2 and a 4v4... it would bring a lot of people... im not much of a pc gamer (the only thing that ive really played is StarCraft) but im really into console games... so please consider Halo 3... me and my team will probly go if there is a H3 tourney...

I dont think there will be a halo this the June event but the July event I expect to see Halo 3.  With being monthly we will bounce around the top games and have 1-2 of them a month so not to have all the games repeating each month.

But there will be open play going on where I am sure Halo 3 will be available.  So feel free to make challenges to people.

I am not very good at the multi on Halo 3, but I can be some target practice for you.   ;D

A Soldier of Fortune 2 tourney would be awesome, except I suck at the game. Just ask Stewart.

After the first event, I'd like to see something other than COD4. That's all we've played at the minis since it released.

Guitar Hero Tourney please. I'm "terrible" at this game also.

Right now we have COD4 and Smash tourney's established, and will decide on the other PC tourney. I know everyone can get tired of COD4, but only problem is finding a replacement which is stable, fun, and played by a lot of people, and current. I know we will also be having non-prize or open tourneys/sessions with different games running. We are working on some options as we speak.

How about some old school games too?

Like battlefield, bf vietnam, bf2 -desert combat ???

Just need to like see which has the most interest and that people would sign up for down at up coming LAN's.

We want to make this a gamers LAN not per say a hard core tourney LAN so putting in things for fun, odd ball etc we are all for that.

   Oh if you want old school, I put Quake 1 up for the tourney! Still the funnest one of them all!!

      But wait.. what is old school about BF2 or 2042?

      Did I hear Supreme Commander?  Hell yeah.. it is about time someone stepped up to the plate.  Chris Taylor had done it again and brought the best RTS to the table.
      I was a little off about the Forged Alliance at first.  Pros: new weapons, installations, vehicles, and a new race you can play.   Cons:  They rebalanced everything to even it out a bit.


      But I like the new balancing, it causes more fighting and less leathal strikes.
      Plus they added build times in the multiplayer.

     I'm in if I'm there for a tournement.

     Also mentioned about it, yes there is a steep learning curve.  But that is what makes it a great replayable game.  I'm still learning stuff about the game, and have a ways to go to master the troops..

    OH  Another tournement idea.

If you're July event has a Gears tourney and/or Halo 3, I'd attend it in a heart beat.  I'm always for some SSBB on the side, too...

As far as PC tournaments go, I'm a long term player of UT2k4 but your guys' rule sets this past tourney were ridiculous (just saying). :p I know you guys were having just a for fun tourney, but Plunge- no matter the game type, just is NOT a fun map for me.  CoD4 and TF2 are always fun tournaments, though, and if you have some UT3 or Q3 or even Q4 tournaments (1v1), I'd love to do those, too.

Just so you know, we decided at the event not to include plunge or more exactly it was not needed/used.

I wouldnt mind a Gear of War pc tourney and not sure when Gears of War 2 is coming out ( thats pc too right?).

And JP, Gears of War for PC isn't all that popular, unfortunately.  I doubt you'll find too many people to play it.

GoW2 at this time is not announced for the PC.  It's currently set for a 360-exclusive release around November, but I don't think they'll hit it.

Epic never makes their first published release date (we were supposed to get UT3 in March '07), however!  Since they fucked us over (their original fan base) by releasing the trash that is UT3 and have been working on it since GoW1 released, they might be able to just do it.

Since all Epic seems to be into is the $$ now a days, it wouldn't surprise me if they actually make it this time around, just in time for Christmas.

Ok, I was not sure about GOW2. As for GOW on PC I thought it might be a fun switch up as it would let people that don't play console play the game. I played it a while back at Muncie Gamers Lan in Indian and had a lot of fun. I did have to play it on like 400x800 because I had not upgraded at the time but it was pretty fun with mouse and keyboard.

How do you feel about letting the console gamers play GOW on the PC, but with an xbox controller?

Im not doing tournament rules but I wouldnt mind. Besides I wouldnt mind play a xbox 360 with mouse and keyboard setup if I could. LAN LORD, our tourney guy, please comment on controllers on pc for tourneys.

There are no rules against using special controls on the PC. 

GOW with a PC/Mouse seems weird to me... :\

But keep in mind, no one really plays the PC version of the game.  Even a year later, the 360 version is still more popular.

I think we should have a Counterstrike Source tournament. As you can tell by my specs I cant play alot of new games  :( :(

CS:S isnt that old, i'm not talking about CS1.6.

it seems like the popular tournament LAN games are Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4, and Unreal Tournament 3

I am so up for a UT3 tournament.

I MIGHT be able to pull off 20fps. So i'm for it.

My concern with a CSS Tourney is not the tourney itself, but sometimes the players. What I mean by that is most, not all, of the teams that come to play CSS strictly play CSS and nothing else. What I would almost rather see would people come and play multiple games, whatever they may be, as long as it involves other players at the LanParty. Now, I know that opinion may peeve some people off, but as everyone has their opinion, and that happens to be mine. My thought is that since the LanParty invites all people to play different games, it almost seems kind of pointless to go to a LanParty and only play 1 game the whole time.

Agreed.  It is pointless, but I don't think you should discriminate, either.  It's not true of every CS:S player and I can say that most CS:S players have really kind of started to move on, I think- to other games, like TF2 and CoD4.  The gaming community as a whole has kind of fractured lately with the quality of other team games that have come out as of late.

You can only play Dust2 only so long.. :P

If we were to have a CSS tournament it would for sure be random teams.   It would also not be for large money/prizes it would be just like the other tournaments fun friendly style etc.    At times we will run bring your own teams but CSS is not one that we would do that on.

The one thing I find rather interesting about CS is that some sponsors specifically ask is there a CS tournament.  If the answer is yes they will not sponsor as stats show that CS players do not and are not interested in upgrading as the requirements to run CS are very low.

I dont think anyone here is hardcore for CSS, i just pointed it out because alot of people have it and its not hard to play either it be CSS or CS 1.6
