Title: Banned apps at NeXus LAN events.....
Post by: Renegade on September 14, 2015, 02:39:36 PM
In the past this has been an issue, and it was an issue at an event I was recently at.  So I have decided to make this formal statement / rule about apps banned at events.

Any kind of bit torrent app that is not built into a game for purpose of updating said game.
Spotify

If you are caught using an app to download movies, pirate games etc you will be blocked from the network and possibly asked to leave the event.   So make sure your auto loading apps are turned off BEFORE coming to the event.   This causes all king of headaches for the network, network admins, staff etc in that these apps take massive bandwidth causing lag you name it for online gaming.

So with that said there is a no tolerance for leeching bandwidth to DL things etc.   Patching games etc is fine.

Seemed like Spotify stopped using p2p over a year ago, however not 100% sure.

Its not about p2p on spotify its more about the bandwidth usage etc.
