Anyone considering getting this? I really don't need/want another shooter but might get it if others find it enjoyable.

What say you all?

At this time no.   They are doing exactly what all the others did with dedicated servers no local lan play only internet play.  So unless the game is earth shattering I will stick with Bad Company 2.

I will check it out some but odds are not buying it.

I learned that Black Ops will indeed have dedicated servers and as of right now they are live in anticipation for Tuesday's (11/9) launch. Still, I might have to pass because I'm not in the mood for another shooter. I like role-playing games right now. LOVE Dragon Age and I'm waiting patiently for The Witcher 2.

It has dedicated servers yes, but no lan play at all.  You have to RENT the dedicated server from a hosting company just like MOH, BC2 etc.

Ah ha! No LAN play. Well, then forget it. I don't like it already.  Grin

Maybe but the main issue is that at the LAN's trying to do tournaments over he net always lag etc which really sucks for tournaments at lan parties

Yeah it will probably work fine for the mini-lans but not for the 60+ main lans.  With that said, I will probably pick it up.

Picked it up at midnight.

Quick review.

Single Player 30 min game time so far = alot better then mw2, MUCH better then BC2 and MOH.   SP was pulling me in and I wanted to keep playing but bed time.

Multiplayer played 2 matched = Graphics are lower then SP but decent.  Plays alot like COD 4, I like the faster pace to it.   I also found that there is a private match option that the person that makes the match hosts the game.  So for LAN play looks like you have 1 host have all be friends to that person and play.   I suspect its p2p but unsure if it still forces data out an back in.  Will have to test that at the mini lan.

Over all I like it and I think it will be worth the money.

I got it on Steam and its a warm "Steaming" pile. I get an error that the game is not available for single player. A search online for error messages led me to a site listing over 20 known issues ranging from lag to no sound.

http://segmentnext.com/2010/11/09/call-of-duty-black-ops-crashes-freezes-errors-sound-fixes/

Guess I need to be patient and wait since that is one of the "fixes" listed.

Well, I took a look at the single player .exe in the steamapps folder and found that there was a ".temp" at the end of the file name. Weird. Removed it and the game works fine. I wonder if the Steam install got screwy or may be it was on as a means to delay some from playing, thereby preventing a crash of the system on launch day?

Dee Dee and I played the zombie mode...  I have to admit that was intense.  Graphics are 5x better than the COD5 version.
