Tournaments are supposed to be at the core fun.  That is why we run votes so people can vote what they feel is the most fun to play etc.   Voting runs till Friday night.  Right now its close between Plant and Gun Game.

Are there prizes for winning tournament games? If there are I would expect at least a little competitiveness. Gun Game isn't really a mode that encourages strategic competitive play.

I figured tournaments would be more geared toward competitive play while there would be plenty of time for for-fun free play outside of the tournaments. At least that's been my experience with other LANs. In tournaments, you play to win, right? Isn't that the whole point of a tournament? To find the best player? I mean obviously you're gonna have fun either way, but I wouldn't expect anyone to be goofing off and experimenting with suicidal strategies in tournament play.

Fair enough, that does sound pretty interesting.

I was gonna try to get a game of Artemis going at some point at LAN 11. Artemis is a space ship bridge simulator that requires 6 players to operate one ship, with each player assuming one of the following roles: Captain, Helm, Weapons, Engineering, Science and Communications. The captain has no actual interface with the game, instead, he coordinates the team through verbal commands and his monitor shows a view of the action rather than a terminal. So yeah, think Star Trek.

Lots of explanations and intros. Mission starts at 3:52.

I've got the software, anyone interested in playing, let me know!

In many ways, UT2004 was the superior game anyways. It's one of those situations where it's hard to describe why; the engine just felt smoother. You really have to play both games for yourself to notice the difference. I had played UT2004 for years and was really excited for UT3 when it came out, but was ultimately let down as I lost interest in the game really quickly. It just didn't have the same appeal.

On a less performance-related note, the Gears of War-style art direction also seemed out of place for this game.

What's the deal with the old school tournament? Has the game been decided? Are you waiting till D-day to drop the deets just for the element of surprise? I'm hoping this isn't a bait-and-switch, where at the last minute it's announced that it's some game no one would've registered to play otherwise.

As much as I like classic PC games, it seems a bit odd to ask people to register to compete in a game they might not have even played before. Just my two cents.

Why was Freeze Tag listed as a seperate game and not a game mode? I would gladly vote for it as 1 of the 3 tournament modes.

Classic Plant is where it's at!

Gun Game's fun but it's not really a competitive mode imo.
